Prepared Statement by Frank J. Gaffney

For five decades, I have worked inside government and out to expose, challenge and counter totalitarian enemies of our country pursuing her destruction. Currently, those forces include such adversaries, foreign and domestic, as: Chinese Communists and their allies, sharia-supremacists and global elitists. I call it the “Red-Green-Blue axis.”
One line of attack common to such enemies is influencing and, wherever possible, indoctrinating our children. The methods are well-honed – and insidious: destroy the family, irradiate religion and extinguish pride in and loyalty to our Constitution.
Today, this axis has its sights firmly set on Texas’ K-12 social studies curriculum. I commend your State Board of Education for repeatedly voting to ensure that this important charter for what will be taught – not only in Texan public schools, but those of perhaps another twenty states across the country and for the next fourteen years – is historically factual and equips our kids to love and protect freedom.
The importance of doing so cannot be overstated. As a national security practitioner, I am particularly concerned that if we allow our adversaries to use our schools to promote their hostile agendas, they can, over time, destroy the popular support for this country essential to its survival in a dangerous world.
I urge you to do again as you have courageously done before: adopt TEKS that, as required by Texas law, affirm American exceptionalism and promote liberty – and reject alternatives and amendments proposed by those determined to weaponize what amounts to important national pedagogic guidance to undermine our country by subverting its children.
