Sun Tzu stressed the imperative of warriors understanding both themselves and their enemy: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.” The U.S. military has carefully followed Sun Tzu’s guidance in the training and education of its warriors.

Yet, today, America is engaged in existential conflict with foes that have succeeded brilliantly in concealing their true identity and very dangerous capabilities. In this, they have been helped by our own willful blindness – a practice in which, given the real, present and growing danger, we simply can no longer afford to indulge. This website is a contribution toward knowing the enemy.

KEY FINDINGS

  • The United States faces adversaries openly motivated by sharia (Islamic law). Under sharia, Muslims are obligated to wage jihad—violent or non-violent—against those who do not submit to this comprehensive political-military-legal code. The stated goal is a global Islamic state (caliphate) governed by sharia.
  • Sharia draws on the Quran, hadith, and recognized interpretations. It commands jihad until lands where sharia is not enforced (Dar al-Harb, the “House of War”) are brought under Dar al-Islam (the “House of Islam,” literally “House of Submission”), where sharia prevails.
  • For non-Muslims, classical sharia prescribes three paths: convert and conform to sharia; accept second-class status (dhimmi) under its rules; or face death. Some categories are denied the dhimmi option.
  • Both Islamic terrorism and pre-violent “civilization jihad” (often called “stealth jihad”) are rooted in sharia. This view is not limited to fringe elements; many mainstream authorities cite orthodox texts, interpretations, and practices.
  • The Muslim Brotherhood is the principal modern engine of Islamic jihad. It shares the same supremacist objective—a global caliphate—as groups like al-Qaeda and the Taliban; they differ mainly on timing and the role of overt violence.
  • The Brotherhood’s own materials describe civilization jihad as subversion conducted by stealth until sufficient strength is amassed to shift to violent jihad for final conquest.
  • Efforts to insinuate sharia into the United States aim to supplant the Constitution, violating Article VI’s supremacy of American law. By sharia’s logic, freedom of religion, core civil liberties, and man-made law are incompatible with Islam’s demand for submission.
  • Sharia-adherent actors prioritize information warfare—propaganda, political and psychological warfare, influence operations, and the capture or erosion of key institutions. U.S. defenses remain overly fixated on kinetic attacks, leaving us ill-prepared for this primary battlespace.
  • The Brotherhood leverages the intimidation created by terrorists to justify Western “outreach” to a monolithic “Muslim community,” creating avenues for stealthy infiltration. The combined pressure of civilization jihad plus violent jihad is more dangerous than terrorism alone.
  • Brotherhood-aligned networks have penetrated educational, legal, political, media, intelligence, and military spheres, hampering clear assessment, planning, and response.
  • Their outreach to government, law enforcement, media, religious leaders, and others serves one purpose: to advance implementation of Islamic law.
  • A clear-eyed, determined counter-strategy to defend the Constitution from sharia can still succeed—if it is undertaken promptly, comprehensively, and with sustained resolve.
